Goals for 2013

Ava
A few days ago I shared Ava’s New Year’s Resolutions and promised I’d be sharing mine as well.

Traditionally my sister and I would get together every January 1st to write our goals and then share them with each other. Besides being some good ole sister bonding time, it also helped us to dream big and increased our accountability.

To be completely honest, this year, I didn’t really have a moment to reflect and write out my goals until January 14th! I haven’t shared them with my sister yet, but I really wanted to get these up on the blog before the end of January, so here they are:

1. Have the fabulous Ellen Laux develop my new brand along with a new blogsite and all the other fun little things that go along with that. So excited for this!
2. Design a cozy space to meet with my clients in our new home.
3. Work on at least one concept shoot with industry peers
4. Blog twice/week
5. Find an organization to volunteer at with my sister
6. Use my film cameras for personal work
7. Write daily on a journal for Ava
8. Go on a date with Curtis once/month sans baby
9. Make our new house a home
10. Fulfill my childhood dream of having a piano
11. Learn how to play the piano
12. Have a garden in our home
13. Teach Ava Portuguese
14. Photograph more birth stories
15. Practice yoga at least 3 times/week

There are of course many other things that I won’t bore you with. You know, the ones that feel more like a to do list than a big goal. For example, buy a certain lens or upgrade a software program. I’ll save those for my sis because that’s what sister are for :).

And because photographers aren’t allowed to write a blog post without a picture, here’s the only photo I’ve taken of my little one this year with my professional camera. It’s more of a snapshot, but I never want to forget her happy face as she wakes up from a nap.

Jamie & Andrew {Engagement Session}

So honored to photograph these two! They came all the way from Seattle to enjoy a nice and sunny AZ day for their engagement session. We made sure to take advantage of our beautiful desert landscape and ended the day at Oreganos with some pizza and a pizza cookie. Couldn’t ask for anything more. Thank you both so much!

Mary & Tim {Engagement Session}

MaryTim072

I met this sweet couple last Saturday for an impromptu engagement session. Tim is in town for Spring training and Mary came to visit for the weekend. They won’t be living in the same place until the wedding, so why not schedule an engagement session? Love people who are up for last minute things :).  Tim was such a trooper, they met up with me after he had played all day!

I loved getting to know them and watching them together. So much love. So much kindness. So much gorgeousness ;).

Gina & Brandon *Engaged*

IMG_0112I posted a sneak peak from this session a few days ago and I may have gotten carried away with this post. These two were so great together I just couldn’t help it. And their perfect-for- an-engagement-session outfits didn’t hurt either.

Gina and Brandon, I absolutely loved seeing you guys again! I hope you enjoy these images. To say I’m sad I won’t be able to photograph your wedding is an understatement, but I know it will be absolutely beautiful and I wish you two all the best!

The perfect way to kick off 2012 engagement sessions

Yesterday I photographed my first engagement session of the year and it was the perfect way to get things started and hopefully set the tone for 2012!

I got to photograph Gina and her fiancée Brandon and the best part is that this is the third time I got to do so.  No, they didn’t have three engagement sessions, but Gina was a bridesmaid at two of the weddings I photographed before.

So here’s a little history for you:

Gina as a bridesmaid for Kristina and Brian back in 2009:

And now Gina as a bride to be with her fiancée yesterday:

The full post is coming soon, but I just wanted to say how much I love seeing familiar faces and the relationships I’m lucky enough to build through my business.

P.S. If you haven’t clicked the Facebook like button above for my business before, you might want to go do that right now. Need a good reason? Because tomorrow I’ll be announcing a fun GIVEAWAY for a FREE SESSION + HIGH RES IMAGES. Stay tuned!

Jamie and Nick, I had SO much fun with you both. Thank you for being amazing and just going with the flow (or in this case, with the rain). I really wish I could photograph your wedding, but I know it will be amazing and I can’t wait to see the photos.

Sofia and Chase Engaged

IMG_0623
Such an honor to photograph these two! Earlier this year I photographed Chase’s sister’s engagement session, which you can see here:
Caitlin and Adam.

When Sofia called me a few days later about photographing her wedding and explained she was engaged to Caitlin’s brother, I was so excited to meet them. There’s nothing better than to photograph weddings within the same family. LOVE it!

We photographed their session at Sofia’s parent’s home and their dog, Genevieve, sneaked in a few photos:

We also walked around the beautiful neighborhood for a few more shots:

Annie & Josh Engaged

You know the saying “they are meant for each other”? Well these too are the very definition of it. It was so great to watch them together and just be in awe of how compatible they are.

They chose to go back to the place where Josh proposed in Sedona and I had the pleasure of spending the day with them there. We ate, we laughed, we almost fell in the river and we took a few photos too.

My favorite of the day:

Thank you both so much for the lovely day (and the delicious meals!). Looking forward to seeing you both again in October :).

Jackie and Luis Engaged!

Jackie and Luis wanted to have photos taken at the exact spot where Luis proposed and luckily for me that meant a trip to New York City!

I had so much fun with these two. Here are some of the images from our day together. More on the trip coming to the blog later this week.

Lindsey and Ryan Engaged

Lindsey and Ryan are getting married this July in Sedona and I’m so excited to be a part of their day. Lindsey’s mom was my boss in my last job as a dietitian a few years ago and it’s just so great to be back in touch for such a special reason. It gives me a “coming full circle” type of feeling :).

Lindsey and Ryan had some pretty specific ideas of what they wanted for their session so I’m keeping most of them private for them.

We started their session at the Boojum tree which has a really great rustic type of feel that I think will match their Sedona ceremony perfectly.

We also had some fun with the signs they had for ceremony, dancing, reception, etc. Maybe they will be able to incorporate them into their wedding day.

Their boxer Daisy definitely took center stage for part of our shoot since she’s such a big part of their lives:
